Haiti

490,000 (reasons to go)

Haiti occupies one third of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. About the same square mileage as the state of Delaware, Haiti has a population of 8-9 million people, over 80% of which live below the poverty level.

A lack of economic opportunity has increased Haiti's poverty in recent decades and therefore increased the numbers of Haitians living without food, shelter, clothing, clean water and medical care. The January 2010 earthquake only made this problem worse. Months later, thousands upon thousands of families are still living in tent camps and lacking the basic necessities needed for day to day life.

Despite it's poverty, Haiti is a vibrant country of colorful art, fantastic music, cloud forests and some of the most resilient people you will ever meet.

In Haiti, there are an estimated 490,000 orphans. Visiting Orphans sends teams to go in to Haitian orphanages and love on the children and staff, as well as to meet immediate needs for items such as diapers, clothing, sheets, shoes, toothbrushes and other basic necessities that are desperately needed to care for the children. We need you to join us as we go in to minister to these precious kids who have been through so much
